Winter Rye (Secale cereale)

Winter Rye is a cool-season cereal grain and one of the hardiest, most widely used winter cereals. It produces upright grass with dense tillers and typically grows 2–5 feet tall, depending on soil and growing conditions. Commonly used for cover crops and livestock forage, it establishes quickly and provides excellent ground cover. Winter Rye Grass thrives in cool temperatures, full sun, and a wide range of soil types. It performs especially well in cold climates and poor soils where other crops struggle, offering reliable growth, erosion control, and high biomass production.
